The 3 day Detox Diet

The 3 day Detox Diet: A Great Start to a Healthier Lifestyle

You may have heard the term "detox" or detoxification. The 3 Day Detox Diet is a simple way to cleanse your body of many impurities that have accumulated over the years. The fact is, no matter how healthy your diet and lifestyle may be, the environment today contains many toxins. These are in the food and water we consume, the air we breathe, and possibly even transmitted electronically with power lines, cell phones and computers everywhere.

Detoxing your body is a natural and healthy thing to do, and this three day program is a great way to go about it. Unlike fasting, which some people do to detox, this diet does not stop you from eating anything at all -you are basically giving up the unhealthy stuff. This is a safe diet as well, although if you are suffering from any kind of long term disease, especially one that has caused you to be underweight, you should consult a health care practitioner before trying it. The same is true if you are subject to any condition that causes seizures, fainting or abnormalities of blood sugar.

For your 3 Day Detox diet, you will be giving up all meats, processed foods and stimulants (such as alcohol, refined sugars and caffeine). Be sure to consume at least eight glasses of water every day during the three days. This is a good policy anytime, but especially important here. You are allowed to consume raw fruits and vegetables, herbal teas and healthy oils, such as coconut or olive.

Start the day with a cup of warm water with half a lemon squeezed in. You also want to schedule a 30 minute walk sometime during the day. This should be outdoors (rather than on a treadmill). The morning is best, but schedule it when you can. As you walk, be sure to take deep, cleansing breaths. This will add to the detoxing process.  This is another habit that would be good to keep up all the time.

As for the diet itself, get your carbohydrates and proteins from organic whole grains, such as brown rice, millet, amaranth or buckwheat. But your real focus will be on vegetables. Consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables, preferably organic. You can make salads, but don't use salad dressing; use olive or coconut oil if you want a dressing. You can also use a juicer to mix up fruits and vegetables. Pick a good variety of green and other vegetables -for example: broccoli, celery, carrots, beets, cucumbers, kale...As for fruits, you can have some orange and apple, but try to pick ones higher in antioxidants such as blueberries, acai, noni or goji (for the last three you may have to buy the juices, though now you can get goji berries at many health food stores); also good are mangos, bananas (not too many of these, they are very sweet) and pomegranates.

You can also include one or two cups of herbal tea or other herbal preparations, the type depending on your needs and constitution. All in all, you may like the way you feel after this 3 Day Detox Diet so much that you incorporate many of these habits into your life long term!
